It is difficult to call The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena a full -fledged second part – it is more like an addition. To begin with – style and atmosphere. Black, cold and dark tones are our regular satellites in the world of Riddik. Here, one prisoner wants to kill the rest, because he considers them insignificance, and the other suffers from constant attacks of panic, then the mother dies in front of a six -year -old daughter at the hands of a schizophrenic. Undoubtedly, bright colors here are completely out of place.

A significant role was played by the development of the characters. One talks about how he was devoted and turned out to be behind bars, the other asks to fulfill a dying request – to finish it off and send a news home. Each hero not only stores several skeletons in the closet, but also incomparably voiced – still, because they invited professional actors for work.

Another plus in the piggy bank of the atmosphere is the impenetrable darkness in which we spend most of the time. You never know that there, in a couple of meters, and whom you will meet behind the next door. Only saves Riddick to see in the dark and his combat skills.

Nearby implementation is one of the best aspects of Assault on Dark Athena. Fists, a baton, a hairpin, a combat knife and knives-curly are used. Standard techniques – blow to the left, right, below and dump in the head. Moreover, most of the enemies do not know the word "standard" and hits as necessary. Well, Riddick can answer the same when it is counterattack. In his performance, the Biblical Testament acquires a new meaning: "If you are hit on the left cheek, break your right hand to the offender". But the business does not end with fractures – the punched lungs and the kidneys, which entered the neck of the knife and just applying dozens of minor wounds in the neck to bring the enemy to pain shock, is a fascinating lesson at leisure. True, there is so much cruelty and blood that in Russia the game has received the rating "18+". Although who was stopping?

The village of fools

Unlike close combat, Stealth-component has become much weaker. If the lamps were not particularly in prison, then on the ship literally every second one carries a flashlight with it and strives to illuminate even the darkest places – sometimes it is simply unrealistic to hide. And if the first third of the game we calmly operate the famous Krushchi knives and stolen hairpin, then the remaining time we have to shoot almost without a break.

You probably decided that opponents should be extremely smart, since Riddik can easily find. I hasten to disappoint you, this is not the case. A detachment of five or six mercenaries acts on the principle of “each for himself”, hiding behind pillars and piles and occasionally firing. Together with enemies, armed rifles, shotguns and other firearms, is not difficult – a shot in the head, and the goal is eliminated.

However, the miracles of stupidity are demonstrated by the so -called drones – genetically modified people whose brain is disconnected. Instead, a system into which the patrol course is driven and the possibility of communication with the mercenary is introduced. These shots are just something! Their reaction is especially touched by a lying corpse under their feet: they came up, looked, stepped, went on ..

More or less serious opponents-alpha cries and combat robots. The first is a cross between a safe with a terminator, which can only be killed by a special weapon, the latter is mechanisms with extremely thick armor. Riddik, by the way, will come to ride on one of these pieces. Not for long, however, it is spectacular (just like in f.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin). And you can also manage your own drone, shooting nothing suspecting enemies from the rear.

Who wants to become Riddik?

The main difference between the Assault on Dark Athena and the "escape from the Butcher Bay" is the presence of a multi -user regime. Here we have six types of competitions:

  • Deathmatch. The goal is simple as twice two – to pull into the next world as many enemies as possible.
  • Team Deathmatch. Classic wall on the wall, nothing new.
  • Capture the Flag. Two teams fight by the flag, which needs to be pulled to the base to earn a point.
  • Arena. In fact, the same as Team Deathmatch, but with one correction: the collision occurs in the large semi -empty arena. From accessories – fences behind which you can hide. However, this does not save too much.
  • Butcher Bay Riot. Another analogue of Team Deathmatch, in which three teams participate instead of two teams. Twelve people chase one after another, trying to beat enemies or smash their base.
  • Pitch Black. The most interesting mode. One person plays with Riddik and is armed only with Krushchi knife, the rest manage mercenaries and have a shotgun, rifle and a machine gun at the disposal. You think bald losing? As if not! There are catastrophically not enough lighting on the cards, and Riddick perfectly sees in the dark … However, if you still manage to shoot a hunter, then you will take his place.

Look in the mirror

The most severe game episode – Riddick runs into the restroom and looks in the mirror. This moment can sow fear and confusion in fragile souls. The fact is that the model of the protagonist has practically not changed since 2004. And this, you know, makes you think. The angular muscles are by no means a sign of long and persistent training. And what is the most offensive, such negligence stands out noticeably against the background of everything else, since, in principle, there is nothing more to complain about.

Of course, Dark Athena deck and spaceport could be drawn more details, but the darkness and faded tones are well hidden by some shortcomings. But everything else is done at a high level, including the implementation of different types of vision (there are three of them in all of them, in the dark and in the Stealth mode), the play of light and shadow and the landscapes of an unknown planet, which Riddick will fall in the second half of the game.

A pleasant impression is left by the videos made on the engine. They are competently and efficiently set, and there are enough spicy sensations – some points in the cash fantastic thrillers.

Although there is nothing strange in this. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena from beginning to end resembles a Hollywood blockbuster. And what is the problem of most modern high -budget films? They are made as if under a carbon copy. Riddick (Riddick)

This not too fragile girl – captain Dark Athena and the main opponent of Riddik. True, she did not receive such a high position immediately and far from honestly. Once Irwin proposed to turn prisoners from suicide bonds into drones in order not only to increase the number of guards, but also to sell them at auctions. But Revas did not want to dwell on this – she longed to capture entire planets and turn all the inhabitants into remotely controlled cyborgs. This ominous, cruel idea did not like Irwin, and then the girl went to the trick: she began to pour poison into his food. Day after day, the Senate became weaker, until it ultimately reached a state close to madness. Following this, Revas circled the ship's command around the finger, and Irwin and his closest assistant Yoto (Yoto) threw into cameras in the compartment of prisoners.

Battle knife

The knife causes more damage than knives-brush, but blocking the blows is a real punishment, since most enemy attacks pass. Although there is one very useful tactic: as soon as the enemy brought a hand for a blow, instantly counterattack – Riddick will pierce the enemy’s neck in a matter of seconds.

This is perhaps heavy artillery in close combat. One or two verified blows can solve the outcome of the fight in your favor, especially if you beat from below-up. The only categorical minus of the batons is its weight, because of which the blows are inflicted very slowly. This is a good selection of the “all in one” class that is suitable for almost any showdown. Well, since most mercenaries use mainly assault rifles, getting cartridges is not a problem.

Shotgun

The ideal option for shooting near: eight rounds in the store and slaughter power will help to quickly deal with any number of enemies. Since the scatter is quite large, it is better to shoot either in the head or a group of enemies – so that for sure.

Unfortunately, there were also minuses. Firstly, the shotgun is recharge for a very long time-during this time, at a high level of complexity, you can quickly go to the ancestors from the planet Furia. Secondly, few people use it, and therefore, there are also few cartridges. Well, thirdly, distant distances are not an option.

Gun

Apparently, the gun was added to the game for the box-there is no sense in it, since there is always something more serious at hand. Unless at a high level of complexity, when the cartridges of the rifle and the shotgun at the end, you can finally take the gun in your hands and check what it is capable of. Although I would advise not to change the tranquilizer – he has established himself much better.

A submachine gun

High rate of fire, great ammunition, but small damage. What to choose-a submachine gun or assault rifle? I am inclined to the first option. After all, you can get into the head from both, so why waste time, if you can shoot twice faster? Moreover, many mercenaries carry precisely this weapon with them, especially in the end, so that problems with cartridges should not arise.

Scar

The most unusual weapon in the game, originally created to help people. It shoots energy clots that attach to the goal and explode remotely. At a time you can send five charges into flight, and then detonate them all. The last two hours of the game you will be inseparable with SCAR, since with the help of it you can not only blow up enemies, but also destroy turrets, “open” the doors and make holes in the right places. In general, a very useful and multifunctional thing.

Opponents

Despite the fact that the intelligence of enemies is quite primitive, they can still arise with them. Some need a special approach, which you will not find far from immediately, it is better not to contact and bypass with others, but others at the most inopportune moment can throw a couple of surprises. Riddick, maybe infinitely impudent, cunning and cruel, but far from omnipotent, so let's get acquainted with the bestiarism before arranging Alabama to the mercenaries.

Drones (Drones)

These soldiers are the pride of the Dark Athena team. Once they were ordinary people, but their body was modified, and the brain was turned off. The solution here is the only one – a shot in the head or a queue in the body. If possible, shoot from a shotgun to hook as many people as possible.

Scientists (Scientists)

Several times per game we will meet doctors who turn people into drones. They wear white robes, and armed either with pistols or rifles. It’s not possible to kill everyone quietly, so here is at your discretion – either in close combat, or release a queue from a machine gun. Robots (Mechs)

Thick -legged, bulletproof, heavily armed mechanisms under the control of mercenaries – perhaps the most dangerous opponents of Riddik. And although they will meet only a few times, you will have to either run away or hide well. You can destroy the robot only by controlling exactly the same, with the exception of those cases when it is necessary to send to the forefathers the one who hid inside. Alpha Drones (Alpha)

Impressive sizes of creatures with a machine gun in the hands and flamethrower or rocket launcher behind him. A terrible sight, really? But killing something is not easy! In the meantime, you will think about how to be with this giant, he will already have time to fry you, because he shoots where it will have to be without stopping.

TURRETS (TURRETS)

If these were ordinary turrets with guns, everything would be easier. But in the future they came up with much more cunning devices: small turrets, slightly similar to crabs, themselves move from place to place and cling where it is convenient for them. Now that we know the enemy in person and are aware of the methods of killing, it is worth talking about specific game situations that only at first glance do not cause difficulties.

  • You will spend most of the time in the dark, hiding behind the boxes and in the corners. Blue backlight is turned on in the Stealth mode, but it noticeably loses to the possibilities of Ridddik's eyes. Accept this for note and more often use the key Q (by default – inclusion of vision mode in the dark).
  • There are quite a few cards in the game with the image of fugitive criminals, which indicate all the information about them, including the price for the head. They are called Bounty Cards, and the more you collect them, the more additional materials (pictures, characters' history) will open. So thoroughly rummage the nedings and climb into the highest points.
  • When you find half a dead Miles (Miles) , who will beg that you send a letter to his family, and finished it yourself – do not refuse. As a reward, you will be credited with an achievement, and at the end of the passage you can read what the guy wrote.

  • The first clash with revas will occur literally after three to four hours of the game. She will disarm Riddick, so you have to fight off either with fists or a near -fight weapon. You can forget about the club – the girl is too fast and inflicts too much damage (she hits with a knife) so that you can delay at least for a split second. The perfect solution for defense is knife-brown, since it is easy for them to block blows. Well, if your motto is “the best defense is an attack”, then put a knife in Riddik’s hands and hit Revas from afar. Also do not forget to jump – it helps to get away from shock.
